Mississippi: Evacuation Plan

If the Emergency Response Team in your area calls for a mandatory evacuation, please heed their warnings. This type of warning is ordered because life-threatening conditions exist in your area. Emergency personnel will not be able to get to you during the disaster. Your safety is their main concern. Please evacuate.

I need maps to show evacuation routes from my city.

Follow the evacuation routes as listed in the maps. Alternative routes may be closed due to flooding or other road hazards.

I am evacuating and need a place to stay. What are my options?

Have an evacuation plan before you leave. If you plan to stay with friends or relatives, let them know you are coming and stay in contact with them during your evacuation. Traffic will most likely be heavy and it will take much longer to get to your destination than it normally does.

If you do not have anyone to stay with, hotels and campgrounds are a good option. Remember to make reservations early. Accommodations around the outskirts of evacuation areas fill up quickly as well as in nearby major cities.

If you have nowhere to go, the American Red Cross will set up emergency evacuation shelters for people as a last resort. Read in the "Emergency Basics" what you will need to bring when evacuating to an emergency shelter.
